Visual Merchandising plays an important part in all retailers’ sales and marketing strategy, so when creating a unique environment to showcase and display items, the visual style and ambience has to be right. Located just off the M62, the popular outlet shopping centre in West Yorkshire is home to renowned retail brands such as M&S, Next, Gap and Barbour. Their objective was to create a distinctive display for a variety of fashion stores located in the shopping area, that would be seen by customers as they entered the complex. Using a red carpet theme and with the imaginative use of bespoke mannequins, ...

Visual Merchandiser and Accessories

One part of getting ready we love here at Visual Merchandiser is adding accessories to bring an outfit together. One trend we particularly like is wearing a really simple outfit and letting the accessories do the talking. We’ve recently been loving fashionistas who have been wearing plain black dresses (a great example is a midi dress) and really piling on the jewellery. A great way to add that extra to add outfit is to wear oversized earrings and bracelets that add pops of colour and different textures. We particularly like rose gold oversized chunky jewellery added to a plain black ...

Visual Merchandiser and The Oscars

Here at Visual Merchandiser, we were watching the Oscars with great anticipation. We were so excited to see who won, but more importantly, we were intrigued to see what the actors and actresses were wearing. One of our favourites from the night was Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture. Charlize Theron looked stunning in her strapless bright white floor length gown. The length and ‘fairytale’ aspect of the dress contrasted with her cropped hairstyle to create a modern day Cinderella look. Another look we really loved was Samantha Barks in Valentino. Occasions like the Oscars make celebrities usually dress in ...

Window Schemes

Window Schemes

The Hidden Truth of Window Schemes   How do we know that our window schemes are working? To answer this question we first have to identify the aim of window schemes and what our potential targets look for to ultimately encourage them to walk into the store. The appeal of window displays target two areas, firstly those who have not shopped in the store before.  In this case we want to catch their eye, usually through excitement or animation, through the use of colour and materials used within the window scheme.  It needs to show the confidence of the retailer as they are ...

The Demand for Charity Shop Visual Merchandising

The demand for Charity Shop Visual Merchandising   As the retail economy continues to struggle, there are a collection of shops that are flourishing through default.  Charity shops seem to be everywhere now, some even in the space that was once occupied by leading high street retailers in the centre of town.  As people’s disposable cash deteriorates with the rising cost of living, charity shops are bucking the trend.  The snobbery once connected with shopping in a charity shop has been truly removed and it only takes one visit to realise that the quality of goods is high and worth buying.  So ...

What can we learn from Visual Merchandising of the past?

Visual Merchandising is one of the most important aspects to consider when promoting products online and we can learn a great deal from window displays of the past. Christmas 2012 window displays can help the Visual Merchandiser decide what works and what does not for Christmas 2013. So what can we learn from the window displays of Christmas 2012? Harvey Nichols focused on an Oriental theme in their Knightsbridge store for Christmas 2012. Although this may seem an unusual approach for a Christmas campaign, the campaign did in fact work well because of a number of key features. Harvey Nichols used ...

Mastering Visual Merchandising

Here at Visual Merchandiser, we understand that retail is a competitive business. You may think your store has the edge because the products you sell are one of a kind. Perhaps you sell vintage clothing and feel that your products are unique and individual and this is what makes you stand out from the crowd. However, what if another vintage clothing company moves near your store? How can you guarantee that your customers stay with your shop and do not move their shopping trips to the other vintage shop? The key to customers revisiting a store and buying your products ...

Mannequins Available from Visual Merchandiser

One of the most important features of visual merchandising within a store is the use of mannequins. However, what is probably even more important than the simple use of mannequins is the use of quality and unique mannequins. Here is a quick guide to the variety of mannequins available from Visual Merchandiser: VJ Realistic Range – The VJ Realistic Range has been created to incorporate a realistic element to the fashion models. Industry News

Here at Visual Merchandiser, we noticed that Christmas saw both ups and downs when it came to retail trade. However, it does seem as though there were more positive than negative outcomes compared to last year.  M&S Clothing struggled, as did Matalan, but similar stores such as Debenhams prospered and got closer to its major Oxford Street re-vamp in the summer.  Independents and small chains struggled in the dim light cast by the aggressive discounting in pretty much all of the major name high street retailers, whilst e-commerce continued to grow as it will continue to do year on year.  ...
